Read On if you care to learn what Originality means to me!
What Originality Means To Me! Originality, what is original...oh this is a debate I have seen arise in the CGC many times, and it is never a pretty one. It seems everytime it is brought about, someone gets their toes stepped on, or feelings hurt, and perhaps even of course, some get exposed for being not as original as they claimed to be. I cannot speak for everyone else, and what every artist views as original within themselves, but I wanted to express to you my viewpoint on it and what I feel is original to me. My creations are something I hold near and dear to my heart. I put a lot of time and thought into what I create, and many times drive myself mad with being overly anal to detail, in perfecting and fine tuning what ever it is I might be creating. I have spent the past 2 years learning lots of tricks and tips in psp and I really do feel my talent, if you can call it that, has developed and come a long way. I didnt learn psp overnight, and my graphics are not anything near perfect. I did follow tutorials in the beggining to learn how to use and manipulate the tools. I also in the beggining sought out ideas from craft books, not understanding that this was not really honest or original (at least not in my eyes or my opinion, but thats me and me speaking for myself only) I mean we all have to learn somewhere, we all have to start out from scratch, making our own mistakes and learning from them as we go. I know there are hundreds of artists with different viewpoints on this, and I am sure that we will all never agree on what we feel is original. I know for myself, it has gotten very discouraging in the past, trying to keep up with the extreme competiveness that goes on in the cgc where graphics are concerned. It is especially discouraging and disenheartening to work so hard in something I am creating from scratch and for it to go unnoticed by so many, and unappreciated if you will. I mean, yes my graphics are far from perfect, but they are not traced, drawn from tutorials, or colored in from line art. They are my original creations, that take a lot of time and devotion to create. I could very easily and quickly go trace designs from other sources, and it no doubt would make my time in psp much shorter (especially when drawing tricky items), but to me, I would be cheating myself of what I value within my heart as true originality. so I guess I shall close this page out with simply stating that originality I guess is sort of like beauty, its all in the eye of the beholder. We all have our opinions on this, just as we all have many opinions on everything. This is all I care to say on the matter, and I hope that I have not offended anyone by doing so, but if I have, I send my most sincere appologies. | ||||
